Every Night in My Dreams

James Cameron reportedly considering making a movie about the WW2 atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Titanic was a good movie, let me stipulate up front, but these days I never watch it because it’s too sad. At the same time, it’s at least a little bit Disney-fying, for lack of a better term, of the wreck. I fear for the same treatment being applied to the WW2 bombings.

The double-bombing survivor Cameron spoke to passed away this week at the age of 93. RIP.

  1. People in Europe are telling me I should see Avatar, and people from home are telling me I’ll be wanting two hours of my life back at the end. Do you know anything about it?

  2. I haven’t seen it, but the basic consensus of what I’ve read seems to be “awesome technical achievement, stupid story.”

  3. Was that a STATLER BROTHERS reference? If it wasn’t, tell me it was, and I’ll act impressed anyway. http://www.google.com/url?q=http://popup.lala.com/popup/432908527125486643&ei=t49GS5q2PJDQlAfPgY0R&sa=X&oi=music_play_track&resnum=1&ct=result&cd=2&ved=0CAgQ0wQoADAA&usg=AFQjCNHkcEHooWUfFsZv4gxUoou17H69pw (OK, I know it was a song from Titanic, but let me think it’s a Statlers reference.)

  4. As much as I live to impress you, no, I was talking about the Titanic song–imagining the effect on my nightmares if I watch James Cameron’s telling of the atomic bombings.

But I’m listening to the link. :)

  5. My thoughts on that horror of a flick that was Titanic are best summed up by a letter to Camille Paglia by Steve Derion. It’s a lot of scrolling; easiest to find by typing control-F and searching for the string “Camille, how can” which brings you to the beginning of the letter.
