Good Show, Mario

Surprise of the night, besides Hillary practically losing Indiana, was Mario’s exit from Dancing with the Stars while Marissa Jaret Winokur, game but still a somewhat awkward dancer, remained. Her sunfire smile and exuberant enthusiasm will carry her through to another week while Mario’s saggy jive, singularly bad amid a very creditable collection of smooth, energetic dances, carried him off.

But a bigger surprise than his exit was the manner thereof: Referring back to a comment of head judge Len Goodman that his youth and niche position him as an excellent role model for young people, Mario declared, “The real brave ones are our young men and women fighting for our country overseas.” Wow. Class, grace, and bravery, considering the Hollywood stage. Good for you, Mario.

Confidential to Mario’s partner, Karina Smirnoff: Stop rolling your eyes. If you want to quit the show, do it. Don’t stay in it and exhibit a snotty attitude. Shame on you. You’re supposed to be a professional.

  1. OMG!

I have never watched even 30 seconds of that show before last night. Was just flipping around and got distracted with something my dogs were doing, and landed on Dancing with the Stars, the last 10 minutes of it. I immediately noticed that Mario kid’s attitude, even when he was just standing there smiling at the camera and awaiting his fate – he just seemed so professional and mature or something. (Also noticed his partner rolling her eyes – bitch.)

And when he got kicked off and handled it the way he did, well color me impressed. Pure class. That kid could show a thing or two to the rest of his generation.

  2. Heh. It’s a good show, the only “reality” show I watch–I used to blog it the way you blog Idol, but got kinda tired of that–I don’t have as much of teh funny, to keep it interesting. But that was too good. He really shocked me–he’s skated the edge of cocky this whole time, but now that I look back, was never actually obnoxious, and the way he wound it up just was really amazing.

  3. Preach it, sister! I was impressed with his exit, too. The remark you mentioned about the men and women overseas, as well as his statement that all Len’s (harsh) comments on his dancing only helped him do better. He was really classy afterwards on Jimmy Kimmel as well. Said he was going to have some new underwear delivered to Len b/c of his comment that he had undershorts older than Mario. And despite Jimmy trying to drag unfavorable comments about Karina out of him (which probably would have been truth; wench), he refused to say anything negative about her.
