Best New Show of the Season

Chuck. Hands down. Funny hourlong with a bit of real love story among its satirized action, not sitcom-funny, tall goofy-cute geek lead, short annoying-funny sidekick, and in my rundown of promising cast for this year’s shows, how in the hell did I keep forgetting about I’ll-Be-In-My-Bunk Baldwin? (As an update, Private Practice and Big Shots are both well out the window at this point, and the other two are stacking up on TiVo. Slim pickings this year.)

P.S., Dawn Summers, the show is a parody. And a pretty sharp one at that. I bet you don’t like Weird Al Yankovic, either.

  1. OHMYGOD ME TOO! I love love love Chuck.

Although he’s WAY too good-looking to have any trouble getting hot chicks. Please. Dude is super cute. I’d be tempted to solicit the guy for sex if he showed up at my door to fix my computer. Did I just say that out loud?

Anyway I love the writing, I love the characters (except for the cheesy sister), and I FREAKIN’ LOVE the way it looks in high definition. Love Adam Baldwin, too.

Also I dig Bionic Woman. That Clareified chick’s reviews are insanely wrong.

  2. Hi, Rachel! He is, true, but hey, it’s TV. We wouldn’t love him so much ourselves if he were not so hot, let’s face it. I like the sister, though–I think she provides some of those little bits of realism that make the satire funnier.

As yet I’ve only watched one Bionic Woman, but I haven’t given up; I’ll get back to it pretty soon. I love Katee Sackhoff but I thought she overdid the red-lipstick vamp in the first episode, I don’t know whether by her own choice or a director or producer’s.

  3. Forgive my XY intrustion but it must be said, Sarah is totally hot and makes a kick-ass ninja! Also, she is painfully adorable when in her wienerville uniform. In general, love the snarky humor and agree about the sister. Chuck’s sister, her boyfriend, and the Bionic Woman’s little sister all need to move in together and not be on tv.

  4. XY intrusions perfectly fine … let me rephrase that: Everybody comments, that’s what the blog’s for.

Sarah resembles Julia Stiles so much that I constantly think, “Where have I seen her before … oh right, I haven’t, she’s just a dead ringer for Stiles.” She does rock, though, and I should have mentioned her in the post. Come on, sister’s boyfriend is a hilarious character. Captain Awesome. Come on, you never knew a guy you wanted to hate because he was Captain Awesome but he was too awesome to hate?

I totally agree about the BW’s sister, though. She is clawing closely at the record of the TV Dawn Summers as Most Annoying Ever. And that’s with only one episode watched.

  5. I think Sarah is a doppelganger not for Julia Stiles but for Erica Christensen (spelling?). You know who I mean? I actually had to check the credits to see if it actually was her. And I agree, Captain Awesome rules.

Don’t even get me started on BW’s little sister. I want to kick that kid in the shin.

  6. I didn’t know who she is, but I looked her up. They could play three sisters. Wild.

Oh noes, I’m now caught up–watched it last night. What will I do till next week?

  7. I will conced your point about Capt. Awesome. Maybe the sister and the creepy friend Morgan can move into an apt together and off tv. But then, what would Capt. Awesome do? Hmmm, maybe I’m overthinking this too much!

  8. And here I thought I was the only one that thought Chuck was way too cute to be considered a true “geek.” I also love Reaper. Love Leland Palmer as the devil. They couldn’t have cast that any better. Pushing Daisies is kind of growing on me as well. But sometimes I wonder if it’s pushing the too strange boundry…
