Confession of a Cubs Fan

I love the Cubs, but ask me to pick my next favorite team and I have to go with the St. Louis Cardinals. Yes I KNOW they’re the Cubs’ traditional NL rival for Midwestern dominance. Yes I KNOW they won last year and so are even higher on the blacklist than usual. Yes I KNOW, I know, but who else am I going to root for, the American League? Please.

Besides, the Cardinals are cool. Bringin’ in the chicks with Stitch ‘n’ Pitch night, for practitioners of the needle arts, of which your humble blog hostess is one. Alas, though, it’s going to be a lot easier for knitters like Sarah than cross-stitchers like me, unless I were to gin up a small, simple, portable project rather than the enormous black hole of time and effort I’ve been avoiding working on for a year. Baseball and stitchery at the park–yeah, the Cards are cool.

  1. Hobby first, then go to the game. A stitch in time saves nine [innings].

  2. A Cards fan, too?
You just get better and better!

  3. …says you and my two STL-based friends. The rest of my Chicago-based and Cubs-loving friends are narrowing their eyes in derision. So I’ll just tell them if they have a problem, talk to the guy with the Sidewinders!

  4. I moved to Illinois when I was 12, and all my classmates immediately asked me if I was a Cubs fan or a Cardinals fan. I had no idea what they were talking about — I came from Texas — but I soon learned that you have to be one or the other. Kudos to you for being both!
I then married a third-generation Cards fan, so I lucked my way into that one. My friend married a diehard Cubbie, and we often joke that I got the lucky end of the deal. Er, at least last year…this year I don’t have much to brag about.
Can’t wait to knit at the game though!

  5. Cubs are rising this year, but I know better than to expect them to go very far.

Sidewinder. We usually carry one only now. AMRAAM’s are much more useful!

St Louis: You’ve gotta love a city who’s major exports are beer and fighter jets! (Even if the fighter jets are the size of flying tennis courts and easy as anything to gun. . . !)
