How on earth did you get bitten by a pelican?
I’ve been chased by chickens and turkeys and once had a seagull try to steal my lunch, but I didn’t know pelicans could be aggressive. You must have been someplace special.

I was standing on a pier in Monterey while people tossed fish down to the seals or sea lions or whoever was down there–a commercial wharf, with stores and everything, but also with little fish you could buy to feed sea life. I was just standing there when a pelican sidled up the railing and nipped my elbow before I knew he was there. I said sleeve, but he actually got a nip on my arm and it scared me. I must’ve been about nine, maybe ten, at the time.
