This One’s Pretty Much for SarahK
I see the attraction of Twilight. I’m nearing the end of the first book, and my editing hand is not as twitchy as you might think. Past the obvious, the obsessive love story, there is a powerful attraction in a pack of potential monsters who have perfected their own small civilization willing to use their powers to protect you, personally, against all comers.
It’s the same thing that made Logan Echolls the hands-down winner over Duncan Kane in Veronica Mars. It’s pretty hard to resist.

EEE! I’m glad you’re finding it interesting. For me, it was my proofreading hand, but truly, the first time I read the series, I just ignored it all. It didn’t start to grate until Edward had I/me confusion in the 4th book–I mean, after 100 years and who knows how many times through high school, you should have your I/me stuff down.

I/me is a copyediting thing, but I haven’t noticed anything so far–either because I’m too much into the story to be in editor mode or because there isn’t that much to find. Either she got it right in the early going or her copy editor was more on the ball. :)

This raises an important question – is Edward a bigger D-bag than Logan?
Answer – probably, but I’ve only seen Twilight onscreen, and haven’t read the books. So far Logan’s ahead just on sheer volume alone.

Well, the comparison’s strained, since as far as I can tell Edward’s not really much of a jerk at all, while Logan …. had his girlfriend ploughed and murdered by his father before we ever met him, so we have to make allowances, right? ;)

I tried listening to this on my iPod. Maybe the reader was too gushy. Maybe I lack imagination to see people whose skin glitters in the sun as anything attractive. I wish I could have enjoyed it but I didn’t.
Maybe it’s different if you’re actually reading it. I try to listen to books I don’t have time to read and some work better than others.
