Being anti-ILLEGAL-immigration is not really a hard-right position. It's just right.

I read the Politico article. It's about religion, not race, and mainline Catholicism also believes that all Protestants are, at *best*, third-rate Christians or at worst no Christians at all. The more pertinent question is whether Romney himself believes what this author says the Mormon Church believes, and Oh yeah, I haven't observed even the liberal media asking him that because it's too much like a religious test for civil office. And because they don't care about religious infighting, especially as they're busy denying with both hands that it exists (radical Muslims v. Christians and secularists and everybody else). And as for his examples, I'm not too much in favor of wild ecumenism myself, and the spectacle of the Pope praying towards Mecca is not one calculated to warm my heart. So no, that doesn't put me off. Mormonism does, but that's why I'm not one. If they want to believe they're the only ones, well, it mostly makes me shrug.

I'll read the other links later--got an appointment to go to this morning.

While you're examining his policies, examine some of this:

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0407/3673.html

http://i4m.com/think/comments/mormon-racism.htm

It would be a disgrace as well as a disaster for the Party of Lincoln to nominate Romney, damaging the Republicans with blacks and minorities for another generation. Actually, Obama's rise might finally allow black conservatives to break the glass ceiling: there are plenty of blacks on the right who have risen to high office: Thomas, Rice, Powell, JC Watts, but more, like Michael Steele, face backwards racism.

I don't see how the Republicans justify Romney's unrepentant racist cultism. Everyone has plenty of fun with the loony Scientologists: the Mormons are just as loony, if not more, and they are MORE repressive and I've never heard anyone point out any racist, sexist, anti-Jewish nor anti-Catholic hate teaching in Scientology as there are in the Mormon Cult:

Either Romney supporters are ignorant of these facts, or they are ok with it. They need to educate themselves about it, and then if they are still ok with the facts, fine. But all this "Mormonism is off the table for criticism" is bullshit. Anyone who can continence the stuff Mormons teach their kids to believe about other people and other religions is hate-speech, period.

I really don't see how the fact McCain pissed off some hard right anti-immigrationalists or signed an ineffectual campaign finance law trumps that.
