If they're actually speaking of "airmen," as in the lowest enlisted USAF rank and not just as a general designator for AF personnel, then they shouldn't be too surprised at doing "sandbag" work. This Marine feels little compassion for any person of any service who is compelled to serve outside of their designated military occupational specialty. We do not say "Every marine a rifleman" for nothing! Mission comes first. If the services are too small to do the job right (hint, hint!) then standby to put down your computer mouse and fill sandbags for the team! Tell the USAF it is called "jointness." :-0 Haha!
